GE Figures Out How to Squeeze 100W of Light from a 27W LED Bulb.

GE recently announced at Lightfair 2012 a 27 Watt LED design that is equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent, while managing to stay in the small form factor of a standard A19 lamp.

One drawback of LED lighting is that as the bulb's output wattage grows, so too does the chip cooling system. GE's new Energy Smart bulb works around this problem by using a cooling design which packs a 100W of power at a quarter of the energy requirements of a standard incandescent bulb.
